A Link For The Young Ladies… I Have Lyme, Can I Get Pregnant?

on March 8, 2014

Having 5 friends that are pregnant at the same time has made me wonder about starting a family of my own some day. I am just now starting to research Lyme and pregnancy. There are LOTS of questions out there that have not yet been answered with solid research. I’m hoping we get more answers in the next 5 years so that I know what my options may be. Here is an informative piece. Good information, though, I don’t like the part where he says that many Lyme patients who complete treatment relapse at some point. The ugly truth about this ugly disease, I suppose.

My Color Is Lyme

Because there is documentation of Lyme being transmitted prenatally by a mother to her child, having children when you have chronic Lyme is a huge concern. Here is a great article talking about this and the steps to prevent transmission.

I will hope and pray and send positive thoughts and energy your way!! You would be such an amazing mom!! I SO HOPE you will get the opportunity to experience the full range of emotions motherhood brings…I’m about to put my almost 4 year old on a motorcycle without training wheels (yikes and gah!) – God, Lyndsey, I wouldn’t have my life without you and I wish you EVERYTHING you want!!!! I’d even offer to carry your baby, but you’d have to look past the nightly beers I drink!! LOL!!! I LOVE YOU!!!

ps: Matt says you have the name the baby Matt…

Haha! I like the name Matt. Who knows. 😉 Thanks Jax. I have no idea what I will decide in the future, but I would definitely like to have options. Love ya’ll!

  2. I wish I had known that I had LD before I was pregnant with my two kids. I had cervical dysplasia two times. I have polycystic syndrome. I have had multiple miscarriages. My pregnancies were both complicated, I had to be on bed rest after the 26th week because I was going to hard labor. My daughter is 21 now , and my son is 17. I can’t help it, I feel guilty over their learning challenges, and physical challenges. No one mentioned this. I watched Under Our Skin last month. I want to get my children tested before they have kids!

Ugh. I’m so sorry, Caroline. It’s heartbreaking. Definitely don’t feel guilty. You were not given the knowledge you needed. No one is. Personally, I am pretty afraid to have my own children because of this, which makes me sad. There are people out there who have had children after treatment and their children are fine, but it just seems too risky. :/
